Farmers’ Almanac Winter 2024 Extended Weather Forecast (Canada)
The BRRR is Back!
Remember last winter? Yea, it was an odd one. So, what’s in store for this coming winter? Will the temperatures remind you of a more traditional Canadian winter? Will snow lovers rejoice?
Here is the Farmers’ Almanac Winter 2024 Extended Weather Forecast for Canada.
Winter officially starts on Thursday, December 21, 2023, but cold temperatures will blow in before then. In fact, meteorological winter starts on December 1. (See your region’s December forecast.) Every year, we consult our time-tested weather formula to offer you an extended weather forecast for not only the winter ahead, but the entire year. Our goal is to help you plan ahead.
Yes, predicting the weather that far in advance has its risks, and at a times, nature likes to remind us that she has the last word. But we do our best with the tools we have to offer you both these summary seasonal outlooks and zoned forecasts. So, it is with great excitement that we unveil our official weather forecast for what’s ahead in 2023-24:
Reason for the Return of the “Brrr”
Yes, Canada, traditional winter weather is coming back. Get ready to enjoy hot chocolate by the fireside, skiing, ice skating, and all things winter! Very cold temperatures and lots of BRRRs are expected for much of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and westernmost Ontario. Newfoundland and Labrador will experience icy temperatures, but our predictions suggest that this area won’t be as cold as the middle of the country. Only British Columbia will see near-normal temperatures throughout the winter season.
Got Snow?
It’s not winter without snow, right? Where should snow-lovers rejoice? The Great Lakes region! If you live or plan to visit areas around the Great Lakes, you should get your fill of snow as our forecast points to above-normal amounts.
Both coastal regions of Canada will see a mixed bag of wintry precipitation. British Columbia will see another wet, white winter with temperatures just above and below the freezing mark.

December 21 2023 is a Thursday, not a Wednesday as you stated. I hope that’s all you’re wrong about this winter.
Hi Bill,
Thank you for pointing out this mistake! We have fixed it. And we stand behind our forecasts, although at times, Mother Nature likes to remind us who is in charge. Happy winter!
In your Extended Weather Forecast for Canada, you state that winter officially begins on Wednesday, December 21. However, December 21 is a Thursday.
Winter in Nova Scotia and PEI are drastically different from New Brunswick and Quebec especially. They should be classified as seperate regions!
Not much detail regarding Ontario unless you happen to live in the most NW portion. I’m in North Bay. Last winter sucked with all the major snowfalls happening in Nov/Dec way before the ground freezes. North Bay used to get covered in snow but the past 3 winters we’ve seen less and less which is the exact opposite of what us snowmobilers need which is more and more.
What will the west kootenays be like this winter?
what is winnnipeg gonna look like this winter?
While we don’t forecast for specific areas, your regional forecast indicates Winnipeg indicates a very cold winter, with close to average snowfall.
Will I need to put my spike snow tires on ,for the sunshine coast this year?
2023 -2024
You have been wrong about the Northeast winter weather for 2022 thru 2023. It has not been shake and shiver or shovel for me in the Philadelphia area. Totally wrong.
I live in Northern Ontario and compared to past years its not really been that bad so far this winter.
GOOO GLOBAL WARMINGGG!!!
Anything specific for Northwestern Ontario?
We will see what comes for Victoria BC 🙂
Supper I live in BC Canada and I have always read the farmers almanac
Supper?
Obviously just a typo!
bgrt
great
The weather will be springlike
I love reading what is going to happen
WOULD LIKE SNOW THIS YEAR OR NEXT YEAR PLEASE
If you think that the costal and Ontario Quebec regions are the only important bits to share I will block what I have just agreed to Alberta Saskatchewan Manitoba focus on the prairies more
There was extensive discussion of the prairies. Note that much of the population resides in QC and ON and along the prairie regions border with the USA. therefore the report will focus on those regions.
So, what are we that live in the west, chopped liver? We need more weather forecast details out here, too.
Ditto
Last year the farmers Almanac predicted frigid weather and lots of snow, we actually had a warm winter and hardly any snow so it’s hard to put much faith in the forecast!
Hi Linda, here’s how last year’s forecast fared for Canada, with specifics.
We live just 40 km East of Calgary and last year’s winter (2020) was mild compared to previous winters. We got most of our snow fall in Feb.
it depends where u r !!! im in edmonton and it was a freezing lonnng winter !! but a hot no rain summer ! something is making the temperature do outrageous flip flops so dont think theres nothing wrong !!! its all very important !
They should just say this. “THIS WINTER MIGHT BE REALLY COLD, ALTHOUGH IT MAY HAVE WARM SPELLS, AND BE EXPECTED TO RECEIVE A HAFTY AMOUNT OF SNOW…OR NOT.”
And yet the almanac was quite accurate this season wasn’t it?
